Photographer of the week-Annie Leibovitz

Early life:
Our photographer of the week, Annie Leibovitz was born in 1949 in Waterbury Connecticut. She ended up going to San Francisco to enroll in a painting program but after travelling to Japan with her mother she saw her true calling was photography. When she returned to San Francisco she started to take more classes in photography and show more interest. She then visited Israel to sharpen her skills even further. She was never taught about color in school, she had to learn it on her own, it was difficult for her to get photographs in color.

The Rolling Stones:

Annie went to see the founding editor of The Rolling Stones magazine, Jann Wenner, In 1970. She had already achieved a strong photographic portfolio which impressed the editor. Annie was given the task to shoot John Lennon. She took a picture of him in 1971 and it ended up being the cover of the magazine. Then, two years later Annie was promoted to Rolling Stones chief photographer.

Annie's claim to fame:
When you look up Annie's name on google, anywhere you look will mention the photo below. Annie was assigned to shoot John Lennon again with Yoko Ono in 1980. She wanted Ono To pose nude with Lennon but she refused, the result turned out better than Annie could have ever imagined. It was said to be the best Rolling Stones cover they ever had. The photo itself is already good but what made this photograph so enticing is the story behind it. Just hours after this picture was taken, Lennon was shot dead outside of his apartment. This was the last professional photograph ever taken of him. Annie always has a story behind her photos.

Later years:
After her career Annie went on to write multiple books including "Annie Leibovitz: photographs", 1983, and most recently "A photographer's life:1990-2005." In the same year as her first book was published, 1983, Annie joined Vanity fair. This is where she became known to shoot lit up, provocative photos of celebrities
